It can be daunting to commit yourself to managing your Facebook page. Where to you find time to generate all the content? More than that, where do you find the ideas for content you post on your Facebook page?

If that thought has you tied up in knots, relax. It’s much easier than you think.

The first principle here is that you don’t have to create all this content yourself. That’s because one of the central features of social networks is sharing. Whether it’s Facebook, LinkedIn, Pinterest or some other social networking site, part of what makes it work is the ability to easily and quickly share content with the rest of your network. All you are going to do it leverage that feature to your advantage in a way that creates Facebook Page magic!

Start out by creating a social media editorial calendar for yourself. Don’t get all fancy about it. Just answer a few questions relevant to your facebook page.

  • How often do I want to post?
  • What days and times do I want to post?
  • When do I want to schedule time to actually create these posts (Hint: you can create a post and schedule it to appear at a later date and time.)
  • What kind of content do I want to post?

With the answers to these questions you can reduce the randomness factor in your Facebook management. You can adjust your plan later if you need to but having a plan to start increases you chances of success.

Create a LIKE Bin

The next step is to search out relevant likes for your Facebook Page. Start with the people who have liked your Facebook Page. Go to their walls and see what they have liked. Find Pages that post relevant content and LIKE them from your Page. You can also do searches based on keywords to find other Pages to like. When it’s time to post content, go to those Pages and see what they are putting up. When you find something that looks good, share it to your Facebook Page. Simple.

Blogs and Webpages

You can do something similar with websites. Use your favorite search engine and find blogs and websites that are posting good content. Remember to include newspaper and magazine sites in your search. Bookmark the site so that you can return to it regularly. When you see a blog post or article that you think is relevant to your target audience, share it.

Video and Photos

Do the same thing with YouTube. Use search to find channels that post quality content that your audience will find useful, engaging, or funny. Bookmark it and return to check it regularly. You can also sign up for update. The same thing applies to Pinterest and other social medial channels. Find pages or categories that contain lots of relevant photos and share them. Facebook ranks photos and video high on their EdgeRank algorithm, so this is a great source of engagement-producing content. Share what you find.

Mix your shared content in with your own original content. The ratio is up to you. Of course, original content is king, but even more important is relevant content. You know you are doing it right when you see your number go up in your insights. Your fans will like, comment and share the stuff they like. Pay attention and start delivering more of whatever it is they are responding to.
