You’ve gotten these thank you emails before, but you may not have given it a second thought. Yeah, they’re grateful you purchased from them or subscribed to their list; wonderful. Yes, but there is method to their madness!
Monetizing thank you emails is one of the easiest ways to not only keep your brand and name in front of your customer, but thank you emails are an incredible opportunity to lead your customer further along their journey through your sales and marketing funnel.
While expressing gratitude, you are also offering them the chance to see offers that are of interest to them. You know this because they’ve already shown interest in you or purchased from you, and you’re now going to pitch them a complimentary product.
This can work at any step in the process, too. Whether they’ve only signed up for a free e-course, PDF or autoresponder series, this is your chance to market to them when they are at perhaps their most receptive moment; when they’ve either purchased or received something free from you. It’s been found that it costs five to fifty times more to acquire a new customer than to sell to an existing one, so its important to keep your customers happy and provide further useful products or offers right at this stage.
Make sure that you are being genuine in your emails, and that the perceived purpose of this email is NOT to sell. You will be doing that, of course but essentially you are helping!
These emails are typically short, with a few links to the product, (a backup download link in case they erred in the process) as well as a subtle but friendly call to action for another product in your funnel.
Written in a non-pitchy, helpful tone, these will come across as something that may truly be advantageous for them to pick up while they’re at it! (Which it should be!)
Don’t make the mistake of reselling them if they initially purchased. They already bought, okay? Be helpful, polite and lead them onward in their quest for whatever it is.
Two major advantages of this type of marketing is that one, you are an expected visitor to their Inbox, bearing gifts. Open rates are as high as 4-5 times that of normal, and clickthrough rates more than double. That’s an incredibly good ROI for an email that maybe takes you a minute or two to compose! You do have a captive, expectant and interested audience; don’t waste it!
Second, emails with good offers get shared, so don’t be shy about having them forward good offers to their friends. (Perhaps even incentivizing…?) Also, make sure you have social sharing buttons active in your emails, so that you have the chance to have your offers shared.
Thank you emails are a terrific chance to continue to build trust and relationship with your buyers and subscribers, and also to perhaps snag another conversion with very little effort expended!
