As a blogger or as someone getting into the blogging sphere, there must be many things going on in your mind. While blogging is simple on the face of it, there are several things you have to take care of.
From the number of visitors to your blog to the content creation and ranking factors, there’s a whole lot you would be interested in understanding.
Here are some blogging tips meant for the new blogger who is hoping to get things right the first time around.
You may wonder if you should concentrate on quality or quantity?
While the first thing that comes to mind is “quality,” an ideal situation is where you can concentrate on both, as both are important.
Some of you may not agree with me, but look at it this way. Quality is crucial as that’s what you need to keep your readers coming back to you, and that’s what is needed to make you an authority in your niche, and that’s what the search engines look for to keep you at the top of the search results.
But people use the word “quality” as an excuse for not churning out quantity. Let me give you an example.
You found a beautiful website where the content is excellent with information that’s not found anywhere else on the web. You loved the site and you bookmark it and keep going back to it. You go back a few times and you finish reading whatever content there is on the website. The next time you go back, you find the same content, but you manage to find things you haven’t seen before. You go back there again to see if there’s anything new. Very soon, the frequency of your visits to that site will reduce as you know they may not have updated it. Over a period of time, you forget all about the site. Finally, since it’s not on the list of sites visited in the last 6 months or more, you delete the bookmark. The site has lost one reader.
Now you know why quantity also needs to be taken into consideration when you own a blog.
Unlimited! That sounds good but since it’s not feasible at the onset, you’ll have to just hope for the best. The more you get the better. When I created my first ever blog, I started receiving a minimum of 50 visitors per day, and I remember thinking that was a lot of traffic. But with time, things change and today I need a whole lot more.
The amount of traffic you should be looking for depends on your goal. If you’re selling an affiliate product on your blog that’s priced at $80, and it offers an affiliate commission of 60 percent, you’ll receive $48 per sale. If you had a 50 percent conversion rate monthly, even if you have just 100 visitors per month, you would be happy with your earnings – at least when you’re starting out.
It’s obvious that you would be looking at getting as much traffic as possible. The more traffic you have, the more monetizing options you can look at. When you get traffic from different sources, it helps you expand the variety of optimization methods.
As a blog owner, you can monetize by selling your own products and services, affiliate products, offer advertising on your blog and a whole lot more. But for all this, you need traffic.
If you ask me to give you a figure, I would say try to get at least 10,000 visitors /month and you will see a vast difference in your earnings – of course depending on how you monetize it. This may sound like a lot now, but its not that difficult if you blog regularly – and these blogging tips and the other tips on my site will help.
Many new bloggers feel that in order to save money, they have to do everything themselves. I agree that doing everything yourself will save money, but what about the time it’s taking you?
If you’re capable of doing everything and you’re an expert, then certainly go ahead. But if something that an expert can do in a few hours is taking days for you to complete, you should look at what you could be losing.
In the time you wasted on handling that task, you could have written 10 or more articles? You could you have done some Facebook promotion? Have you left everything else that’s important to handle this tech task?
More often than not, beginners end up costing themselves more than they are actually saving. And in the end the work done may reek of amateurism.
It helps to have an expert handle some things for you. You should also spend the time to learn the intricacies, so that at a later point you will be able to make any urgent fixes.
Similarly, when looking for a tech person to do your job, make sure they know what they’re doing. You don’t want to end up spending money on someone that’s no better than you, and the web is filled with such people. Hire efficiently and knowledgeably.
Everyone talks about rankings and even beginners know that there is a ranking system used by search engines.
What is Alexa rank?
The Alexa ranking system is based on the visitors that visit a website or blog. But it only takes into consideration visitors who have the Alexa toolbar installed. This is the reason; only bloggers who have connections with other bloggers will be able to have a good Alexa rank, as not many know about it outside the blogosphere. Alexa rank is really not worth worrying about and what you should really focus on is the number of visitors you are getting (and how to increase those numbers) and profits from your blog if you have monetized it.
There’s one golden rule to follow when you’re into social media marketing. Social media is big today and something you can’t overlook. It has the potential to send thousands of visitors your way, when you do it right.
If you’re going through all that trouble to get people to your blog, you must do everything possible to keep them there and have them come back frequently. This is where quality content in good quantity matters.
Make your blog so interesting and well laid out that people like being there. Keep writing good informational content frequently, for them to keep coming back.
Since there are several articles that talk about social media promotion on this site, we’re not going into that aspect here in this article on blogging tips.
Blogging is a continuous process. You don’t just create a blog and expect miracles to happen. I know what we’ve given here barely scratches the surface, but every piece of knowledge will help you immensely. Keep working hard until you find what works and when you do find something that works for you, concentrate on that.
