Email List Building – 3 Tips For Increasing Your Mailing List Subscribers

Online Marketing

A mailing list, is a great marketing asset, as you are creating an audience which not only WANTS to hear from you, but are most likely ready to buy things that you recommend. With the help of an autoresponder like Aweber , (an online tool used for capturing email addresses and sending emails simultaneously) you can regularly email these people and build a relationship which can significantly increase sales conversions.

Whether you email your mailing list to promote your own products, to deliver an e-course, or to promote someone else’s products as an affiliate or a mixture of each, a mailing list is a very powerful and important part of any online business. For this reason, the more people on your mailing list, the better.

Below are three great ways to build your list:

3 Tips For Increasing Your Mailing List Subscribers

1. Guest Posting

How many visitors do you think high-ranking blogs get in your niche? Well, depending on your niche, they can get hundreds or even thousands every single day. Also, those visitors are interested in the topic, so are more likely to buy your products or those you are promoting. These are the people you want on your site, filling in your autoresponder capture form, joining your mailing list and reading your emails.

But how do you get them from the blogs to your website? Well, a great method would be a guest post with a link to your website at the bottom. Not only would some readers click on your link and then join your mailing list, but you are also building a back-link which improves your SEO.

To begin with, you will need to compile a list of blogs in your niche. The more popular they are, the better. Get as many as you can. Then, find contact information for the owner of those blogs. Some may even have a page for guest post applications, but many won’t. After that, contact the owners you are able to, and tell them you are interested in guest posting on their blog. Make sure you stress that it will be high quality free content and, if they have any suggestions, you will write an article on a topic of their choice. The only condition being that you require a link to your site at the beginning or end of the article. Not all will say yes, but some will, providing it really is high quality content and your mailing list isn’t spamming.

Each post won’t send huge amounts, but, collectively, it’s definitely worth the effort. If you are not good at writing, then hire a freelance writer to do it for you. Look to pay around $10 per 500 word article. You don’t want to pay too little, because quality will suffer, but too much will hurt your cash flow.

2. AdSwaps

This is probably one of the fastest ways to get subscribers. The basic principle is to find other mailing list owners with a similar size list to you and get them to send an email promoting your list or your opt in. In return, you promote theirs. You can find other newsletters in your niche by doing a Google search for “Your Niche Newsletters”, visiting forums and posting an ad swap request or looking on ezine directories. Some of the blog owners you researched in the first guest posting tip above may have lists, too. I currently use an ad swapping site called SafeSwaps which is pretty cool because all users are feedback rated so you can review their feedback before agreeing to swap and get a feel for the quality of their list and expected opt-in rates. If you have no list you can also buy solo ads which will get your mailing list started.

One word of advice on ad swaps is, don’t overuse these. Your mailing list readers may get the impression you are spamming them if you use this method too often. Once a month is the most, in my opinion although some people swap a lot more. The stronger the connection you have with your mailing list, then the better chances that they won’t unsubscribe.

3. Referrals

This works best for paid products, but if you use a free gift to get mailing list subscribers, it can work as well. For paid products, it’s easy. For products over $20, give 50% – 75% commissions and for $5-15 products you can even give 100% commissions. Don’t worry, you’ll make your money back with affiliate promotions when they are on your list.

For free gifts, you can always give affiliates $5 or $10 per subscriber they bring in. I also recommend giving bonuses for certain targets, such as 100 subscribers, and also providing instant PayPal commissions. This makes it an easier decision for affiliates.

Mailing List Subscriber Take Away…

List building isn’t set in stone. You don’t have to follow a fixed route. You can pick and choose the mailing list strategies you wish to use and leave the other ones for other people. These three strategies are by no means comprehensive, but they can get you started.
