Selecting Yourself For Success: Developing The Entrepreneurial Mindset

LeadershipPersonal Development

entrepreneurial mindsetA child was asked who made him. The answer was: “God made me this long (the child spreads his hands and measures the length of a baby) – and I grew the rest of me.”  The little child left God out of his growth and this shows a deep conviction: We are what we make of ourselves.

If you hope to become a successful entrepreneur, if you want to build something useful, and make money in the process, then here’s the good news for you:

Most new businesses fail…

The few successful entrepreneurs are written off as lucky, “This person is just lucky, everything he touches turns to gold.”

While luck may sometimes play a part in success, more often – failures happen because people are not truly committed to their success, they don’t understand the market they’re targeting, they don’t take advantage of new opportunities.

A high achiever may have labored for years, bending every energy to attain his goals. He may have denied himself many things, and his seemingly sudden success may be the result of years of hard work.

Thiers, of France, once received a compliment: “It is marvelous, Mr President, how you deliver long improvised speeches about which you have not had time to reflect.” He responded saying, “You are not paying me a compliment; it is criminal in a statesman to improvise speeches on public affairs. Those speeches I have been fifty years preparing.”

If you are an Internet marketer, how many really successful marketers can you name? There are thousands of them, but only a few can really make a claim to Internet riches.

Reason?

High achievers have an entirely different state of mind and are determined to succeed. They have the entrepreneurial mindset. Aside from the drive and determination to succeed, they possess skills that take their business beyond the start-up stage and to the next level.

Entrepreneurial Mindset: High Degree Of Commitment

“You can’t wait for inspiration. You have to gather it with a club” – Jack London

entrepreneurial mindsetAchievers don’t wait for ideal circumstances, because there never will be such. To reach any destination, you need to sometimes sail with the wind and sometimes against it, but sail you must.

Becoming a successful entrepreneur is not easy, but success depends on how “badly” you want it. Commitment comes from a burning desire..

The key factor that helps people stay committed in the long-term is to create a business based on something they enjoy or have a passion for.

Entrepreneurial Mindset: Problem Solving

“The opposite of a problem would likely be the correct solution.”― Joey Lawsin

Success comes to those with the primary goal of connecting with people and ensuring their needs are met to their satisfaction.

Let’s say that you’ve made the commitment and are determined to become a successful entrepreneur.  You may be looking for the right idea, and you want to be sure that the idea you’ve seized upon is indeed both ripe and exactly right – not just for you – but also for your target audience.

You think you want your new business to be in …. Video games… health products… or green technology …whatever it is.

Here’s the question you want to ask yourself: who cares?

I have seen many online marketers fail because they never bother to see if people are interested in what they have to offer. Most people start with a solution, and then they go looking for a problem. They don’t understand that finding a problem and providing a solution will lead to the flow of money, without having to make money-making a primary goal.

Success comes from giving people what they need, not what you think people need. It’s all about solving a problem and those with the entrepreneurial mindset understand this.

Entrepreneurial Mindset: Thinking New

“There’s a way to do it better—find it.” — Thomas Edison

One factor that is common to all high achievers with the entrepreneurial mindset is that they see a problem and find a solution to that problem. But it doesn’t end there. They see how they can innovate (think new).

Thinking new involves bringing “your” perspective into the industry you’ve chosen. Look at what others in the industry are offering and see how you can make a difference, how you can add value.

Agreed, not everybody can invent the next generation mobile phone, but coming up with a simple solution that nobody has thought about before, can give you a greater chance of leaving your competition behind.

Entrepreneurial Mindset: Enormous Discipline

Discipline is being able “to do what you should, when you should do it, whether you feel like it or not.” – Brian Tracy

This is one of the main reasons why some people never reach their goals. Why they are always frustrated.  Anyone who has accomplished anything worthwhile has never done so without discipline, whether in business or academics or sports.  Consistency is the key to discipline. It takes sacrifice, self-control, avoiding distractions and staying away from all sorts of temptations that can take you away from your work.

It is discipline that made the tortoise win against the hare. It is discipline that differentiates high achievers from failures. Those with the entrepreneurial mindset understand that success only comes through hard work.

Entrepreneurial Mindset: Patience

“Patience is bitter, but its fruit is sweet.” ― Aristotle

entrepreneurial mindsetMost people have very little patience. People are willing to understand that a brick and mortar business can take a couple of years to see profit, and yet online…they want to make a profit within a few days.  When this doesn’t happen, they quit! These individuals do not have the entrepreneurial mindset.

There are no overnight riches!

Online marketers who have achieved success are those who put in a lot of effort and time into their business, and gave their business time to mature before expecting returns.

Entrepreneurial Mindset Final Thoughts

Successful entrepreneurs are living, breathing human beings who started out like most of us … with a hunger to succeed.  They also encountered obstacles, made mistakes, but they fulfilled their commitment, they never gave up nor did they look for shortcuts.
